Today I Take A Little More of My Life Back

On this day one year ago my mom told me she was giving up her fight with cancer. Less than two hours later my daughter, my only child, came home from school and announced that she wanted to transfer to her dad's school district. It was not a good day. I lived in heartbreak for months. I've never been prone to depression but that is exactly what I would call the period that followed. Nine years ago on this day my life was forever changed when I learned of a careless, reckless act between two people -- one person I love dearly, the other I barely know. It wasn't a good day either.…

    The Psyche Doesn’t Care

There is so much more going on here than we can see in day-to-day life. Real life or imagination, it’s all the same to the psyche. We can actively live something or we can symbolically do so. To the mind, it’s all the same. Crazy, right? And a bit freeing too. Swiss Psychologist, Carl Jung, wrote extensively about such matters, as have countless others who’ve studied Jungian Psychology. Allow me to elaborate. A few working definitions … psyche the human soul, mind, or spirit. And in psychology, it’s defined as the totality of the human mind — conscious and unconscious persona/conscious ego personality the outward ‘face’ we show to the world shadow those…

How a Cardinal is Pointing the Way

As she was preparing for D1 Prospect Camp she looked through a list of logos for all of the colleges that would be there. “What school is this?” she asked as she pointed to an image of a red bird. “I don’t know,” I say. Ball State University was one of the main school’s to pay attention to her at the camp. She worked extensively with the Associate Head Coach, Josh, and found out that day what school that bird belonged to. Their motto, “as cardinals, we fly.” . . . “I want a shirt that just says BALL, or SOFTBALL,” she said to me several months ago, months before she knew Ball State…

    Understanding Synchronicities

I remember hearing the word SYNCHRONICITY many moons ago, thinking what a cool word. And while the sound of the syllables have a pleasing rhythm, the phenomenon of synchronous events is true magic. Swiss Psychotherapist, Carl Jung coined the term as he experienced meaningful coincidences where two or more signs seemed to occur randomly, yet were connected to meaning in life. Synchronicity: the simultaneous occurrence of events that appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection. . . . So what’s the difference between a synchronicity and coincidence? Awareness and emotion. “The primary reality of synchronicities is emotional, not intellectual,” says Mark Holland, co-author of Synchronicity. “The reason they’re there is to make us feel…

    Synchronicities are Everywhere, 11:11 Edition

Ever since my mom passed, I’ve been seeing repeated numbers on the clock every day — 1:11, 2:22, 3:33, 4:44, 5:55 … and certain numbers I’m seeing even more. It prompted me to do some research. For 11:11, I found the following article by Willow Soul, excerpted below. Read full article for more in-depth info. . . . Are you seeing 11:11 everywhere?  Do you know what this number means? Some believe that the actual meaning of 11:11 is a sign that angelic beings are close by.  They come with love and protection, and they want to bring you clarity and guidance. 11:11 is the number of masters. The ascended masters are sending you…

    The Symbolism of Feathers

I took a hike today. It’s always a great way to clear my head and ask for insight. I woke up feeling negatively about myself; vivid dreams of lack woke me and left me feeling not good enough as I started my day. I’ve been noticing lately how much other people’s energy affects me. I began to unravel that thought on my hike. . . . My daughter and I spent the weekend together, and on Friday night we headed out to watch a local band play. During the outing we saw many people we know – people we love as well as random acquaintances. One girl I used to be ‘friends’ with was…
